Permaculture is a practical approach for regenerating the earth and communities. It is about maximising the relationships within living systems.
It has empowered people worldwide to develop dynamic, resilient projects that work with nature, rather than against it.
Permaculture can be applied to whatever scale or aspect of human living, whether:
"The course made the connection between Islamic spiritual principles and the way we interact with nature very clear and tangible.
It also gave many practical ideas and it inspired me to reflect on myself.
Tanja - Course Participant
So much wisdom and knowledge is shared. It helped me not only learn the basics of permaculture for land-based projects, but to also directly apply permaculture in other areas of my life.
I found it the perfect amount of info for a starter course, as it's super informative, but still not overwhelming.
The connections between ecology, Islam and the social just make this so powerful and special.
Valentina Maccario - Course Participant
It was really exciting to hear that the principles of Islam and permaculture overlap.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to explore this relationship in a systematic and comprehensive way."
Yağmur Öcal - Course Participant
"This well-paced, excellently designed and generously delivered course has helped me in multiple ways. As someone who is fortunate enough to be able to be paid for my social justice activism, it's given me much-needed principles, ethics and a spiritual framework to consider the value of small, slow and nurturing solutions.
It's inspired me to consider the interconnectedness between my own healing journey, my spirituality, the healing of the earth and people around me, and everyday components of my life, like my house and my garden.
It's also given me much food for thought in relation to what I consider "proper" or "true" work.
..whether they are newcomers to permaculture, or Islam, or ecology, or whether they are already quite experienced in one or more of these areas. The cost was very affordable for me, and the pacing and time requirement was perfect."
Shanon Shah - Course Participant
It allowed me to not only think of Permaculture within an Islamic framework, but also gave me practical language, methods and actions to apply Islamic ecological ethics in my life."
Kori Majeed - Course Participant
The content and style of teaching made it easy for me to gain a good, basic foundation in permaculture.
I found the course made the relationship between permaculture and Islam really clear."

Lead Course Designer and Presenter
Muzammal has been involved with grassroots ecological work for over 20 years, and is one of the pioneers amongst Muslims in the UK.
His work includes initiating the UK's first local Islamic ecological activist group (in 2004). This has now evolved into Wisdom In Nature (WiN) which also offers Islamic ecological and conscious group-work trainings for individuals and organisations. Muzammal also worked within IFEES/EcoIslam for several years, helping initiate much of their grassroot activities in the UK.
In 2009, Muzammal completed the Earth Activist Training (EAT), a Full Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course that uniquely weaves social permaculture and group work into all aspects of the syllabus. This was with inspiring teachers such as Starhawk, Andy Goldring and Tomas Remiarz, along with a wider team at Landmatters eco-community in Devon. He is currently completing a year-long 8 Shields approach (which maps out indigenous ways of being for a regenerative culture) of exploring and embodying core routines of deep nature connection.
Muzammal has applied permaculture to both land-based initiatives and people-based projects (social permaculture), and is currently completing a Diploma in Applied Permaculture with the Permaculture Association of Britain (PAB). He also designed and delivered what was probably the first Islam and Permaculture course anywhere in the world, back in 2010.
Muzammal has also completed numerous trainings and applications in community building, conflict transformation, facilitation and Sociocracy (dynamic governance), including the ten-week Sociocracy Leadership Training with Sociocracy for All. He has advised a range of organisations, such as mainstream NGO's as well as radical cooperatives, and is a Board member of Peace News. He also has an MA in Environment, Development & Policy – his final dissertation focussing on Islam & Climate Change.
Muzammal is also a qualified medical doctor and has worked in NHS psychiatry over more than 12 years, drawing on a more person-centred approach.
Additionally, he is an experienced, and practising Emotional Breakthrough Therapist at Restorative Wholeness, offering transformative 1:1 therapeutic processes, to help clients process anxiety, mood and trauma. He is also the author of the E-book Radical Healing, Wholeness and Islam: An Introductory Narrative on Transforming Emotional Pain Through Journeywork.
Here's a short video we posted on YouTube about the course, how it was designed, the lead designer, what the course can help you with, and more...!
We want this offering to be for a fee that is appropriate and fair. This means taking into account the varied situation of participants, and our own situation: that we are a small team that receives no grants funds, and the hundreds of hours of effort channelled into designing and producing the content, working with the tech, and getting all the other components in place, which we hope will simultaneously contribute to a high quality learning experience.
There are also sustained efforts to keep on top of the background work to maintain the course, and respond to needs arising and any feedback that we can implement. Additionally there is the cost of the different platforms required to host the course. We are also in need of funds to invest in a more resilient support structure that will gently help take us to the next level, enable us to strengthen our network and for our work to grow and benefit more people.
The fee is one that we feel is extremely good value based on the above. At the same time, we know that some people will be in financially challenging circumstances. Thus, if you are keen to complete the course and cannot afford the fee, please complete this form, where you can select a discount, and we'll do our best to help!
If you are in a situation where you both, appreciate what we do at WiN and are able to help grow our grassroot activities and events around a vision of co-creating conscious, just, regenerative communities, you are invited to gift a monthly amount here. As a monthly donor, you will also get a discount on select offerings (including this one!). Alternatively, you are also welcome to select a single gifting option when you register.
The course consists of around a dozen modules, each typically takes an hour (or less) of self-study. The whole course can thus usually be completed within about ten hours.
These estimates include the videos and the guided exercises, which together enable your learning to be more grounded and integrated.
Once you complete the course, you'll gain a Course Completion Certificate!
This course is unique in it's ability to empower you to apply the content to any project in your life as you progress through it, while grounded in an authentic spirituality. You will also gain an understanding of ecological principles you can apply to any future project you may wish to participate in.
